Vastu for Temple
While constructing a temple, a careful selection of land is mandatory. For temple construction, the selection of land should be done in the open, neat and peaceful place. Temple should be constructed a little far away from the dense population. There should not be residential houses about 100 feet around the temple. As it helps to maintain peace and cleanliness near the temple. It saves the temple from the affliction of Dhawaja Dosh also.
A square or rectangular land is best for the construction of temple. That land is considered best which has four directions in its center when measured with magnetic compass. The land which has sea, river, lake or fountain is its North or East sides, is considered best for construction of the temple. The temple gets quick popularity, if constructed on this type of land.
A high place in the city amidst the hill is best place for the construction of temple. If the temple is situated at South West direction of the city, it proves to be the best for happiness, prosperity and popularity such temple becomes an epitome for fulfilling all desires. People who reside in North or East direction of the temple, lead peaceful life while those who reside in South West of the temple face troubles and their peace and happiness come to an end.
A temple should have open place around us four sides. North and East directions are beneficial, if kept open. The surface of temple should have slope either in its North, East or North-East directions. Temple with elevated surface on its North or East sides proves to be inauspicious. Gods and Goddesses like to reside in such temple and temple does not get popularity. That is the reason, a heavy statue of Nandi is founded at the lower surface of North facing in all Shiv Temples. A boundary wall is must around the temple. The main entrance door of the temple in East or North direction is auspicious. Because some deities like to enter in the temple through East direction which is also the entrance door of Indra Devta.
The devotees get mental peace, prestige and popularity if they do worship in the temple which opens in the East and exits in North, some deities enter in temple from North, Ishan and Vayavya way so the doors in these directions are auspicious. God Varun and Vayu devata always like to enter the temple from West or Vayavya direction, that is why, templets doors in these directions is beneficial. Moving a door in South or South West direction is liked by fire God. So therefore, the door can be kept in these direction also. The main temple should have doors around all the four sides, which proves to be good. But the main door should be bigger and attractive as compare to other doors in the temple. The main door of the temple should not be constructed in such a way, that.the deities are visible from the road. A main door on the road in the temple, does not lead to popularity inspite of making dedicated efforts.
The place, to keep the shoes and slippers at the entrance of the temple should be in Vayavya direction. For washing of hand and feet, arrangement tap or tank water in North or East direction proves to be beneficial. While Toilets should be constructed outside the temple premises. Parking should also be done outside the premises in East or North direction. Eatable should be kept in North West direction. For the source of water like well, pump or underground storage of water, East or North directions are beneficial. Kitchen should be in South East part of the temple. While prasad sthal or a place from where devotees buy prasad for offering to the deities, should be in North East direction.
Donation box in the temple should be in North or East direction. Marriage ceremonies and other religious activities, should be performed outside the temple premises in west pr South directions.
The popularity of the temple enhances wonderfully in no time, if there is a river, pond or any flowing fountain in North + East direction of the temple. These temples or pilgrimages bestow readily blessings. There are so many world famous temples and maths in India, which have either a river, pond or flowing lake in their North-east directions. Some of its unique examples are Pushkarni River in the North of Tirupati Balaji temple and Ganga river in the East of Shri Ramkrishna Math.
A temple has so many statues of various deities. The main temple should be founded on South West direction of the temple (Chandar Bhoomi is best for the main temple).
These types of temples bestow all kinds of happiness and grandeur. The ceremony of energizing idols should be performed on Chandar Bhag and entrance door should be made on Surya Bhag. If a temple has such type of arrangement, the temple becomes an epitome for fulfilling the desires.
Statues of the deities should be kept on the surface, they should not be kept on the terrace, statues should not face South direction, but lord Hanuman's statue can be placed in South direction.
Lord Ganesha is the symbol of auspiciousness. The right place for the foundation of Ganesha statue is South. It is because, in this way, he can cast his aspect in North direction. Mount Himalaya is situated in North direction, and is the abode of Ganesha's parents (Shankar's Parvati). Lord Ganesha feels happy in looking his parents. That is why, the best place for keeping his statue is the South. Lord Ganesh's statue should not never be placed in West direction, because Saturn rules West direction and Lord Ganesha is an epitome of Mangal karaka, So by doing so Shani and Mangal combine together, which won't be auspicious.
Other statues of deities like - Goddess Laxmi, Lord Vishnu and Kuber should be placed in North-East direction. For Goddess Mahasaraswati towards the west direction and for Goddess Mahakali South direction is best.
The statues in the temples should always be solid and made in stone or metal. clay models are also auspicious. But the statues should not be hollow from inside. The ceremonies of founding and energizing the idols should always be performed in an auspicious Muhurta.
When devotees bow their heads in the lotus feet of pranprishtishit murthi, negative energies come to an end, and positive energy starts flowing into the body, these statues become so divine and powerful that by the mere touch the devotee gets rid of incurable diseases. That is the reason, that we bow our head in the lotus feet of deities at the time of worship.
